NEET UG 2024: Supreme Court Hearing on Paper Leak Allegations and Counselling Schedule
The Supreme Court of India is set to hear crucial petitions on alleged paper leaks in the NEET UG 2024 examination on July 18. A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will oversee the proceedings, which hold significant implications for aspiring medical students nationwide.
In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the central government, along with a report from IIT Madras on the NEET results, provided detailed information about the situation. The government has assured that any candidate found involved in fraudulent activities will have their candidature cancelled, reinforcing the integrity of the examination process.
Key Points from the Government’s Affidavit:
- Counselling Schedule: NEET UG counselling is expected to commence in the third week of July, following the Supreme Court’s decision. The detailed schedule will be available on the Medical Counselling Committee’s (MCC) official website, mcc.nic.in.
- Round Preferences: Students will have the flexibility to change their seat preferences during the first and second rounds of counselling. The entire process will span four rounds, ensuring ample opportunities for candidates to secure their desired seats.
- Seat Allotment and Cancellation: If any seats are cancelled before the third round, it will not impact the overall seat allocation. However, candidates whose seats are cancelled after the third round will not be eligible to participate in subsequent rounds. If cancellations occur post the fourth round, the vacant seats will be filled through an additional round, subject to Supreme Court approval.
The Supreme Court’s decision on July 18 will be pivotal in determining the next steps for NEET UG 2024. The affidavits from the Center and NTA have been submitted in compliance with a previous court order from July 8. However, some petitioners’ lawyers have not yet received these affidavits, leading to the postponement of the hearing.
As the NEET UG 2024 counselling process progresses, students and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the Supreme Court’s verdict, which will play a crucial role in shaping the future of medical education for thousands of aspirants across the country.
