His academic career included prestigious positions at the University of Mysore, the University of Calcutta, and the University of Oxford, where he held the Spalding Chair of Eastern Religions and Ethics.
Radhakrishnan’s philosophical work focused on interpreting Advaita Vedanta for a contemporary audience, emphasizing the universal aspects of Indian philosophy and bridging Eastern and Western thought. His contributions to comparative religion and philosophy earned him international acclaim. He was honored with several awards, including the Bharat Ratna in 1954 and honorary membership in the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963.
